Learning language using LanguagePod 101
There are currently many languages available on LanguagePod 101, ranging from popular ones like Spanish, Japanese, and English to less well-known ones like Danish and the interesting French-Canadian.
I believe it quite doubtful that the full series in any language should enable you to “converse with confidence at a basic level.” The lowest-level bundle is targeted at “beginners who desire to speak a little language.”
The platform doesn’t even demand that you complete them in order, therefore it is only begrudgingly stated under the Study in Order section that “you will probably wish to study some of our lessons in order.”
Under “Start Studying,” where you are presented with a random selection of words and phrases in the language you are studying, is where you will find the main study tool or batch of content that you appear to be expected to go through.
Getting started with LanguagePod 101
The foundation of Innovative Language’s teaching strategy is audio podcast lessons. You get to listen for 10–20 minutes while two (or sometimes three) teachers converse with you about the dialogue’s subject matter, vocabulary definitions, cultural allusions, and language used to demonstrate it.
Although very informal, these lessons are structured. Although the teachers have a lot of creative freedom in how they present the material, every lesson has the following general structure:
- The instructors describe the lesson’s objectives and the topic of the debate.
- For less advanced lessons, you first listen to the dialogue at regular speed before doing it again at a slower pace.
- The dialogue’s important vocabulary is listed by the professors along with English translations. They’ll provide more usage examples for some words than what you heard in the chat
- The dialogue is played one last time as the lesson comes to a finish.
Lessons might also cover:
- Information or cultural references that are pertinent to the conversation
- Grammar explanation with instances, where the instructors talk about the primary grammatical principle present in the discussion
Rocket Languages: LanguagePod101 alternative
The sales website for Rocket Languages has a little spammy vibe. They use the same marketing strategy as LanguagePod101, and I don’t appreciate this kind of marketing.
Although forceful and under pressure, it works. Due to this, I avoided Rocket for a long time, but I finally joined and discovered that their language-learning program is 100 percent legitimate. Speaking, listening, reading, and writing are all covered in Rocket Languages, which is essentially an interactive textbook.
